This is proof that we don’t need Trump at all

This summer, Congress passed the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, one of the few bipartisan bills that would move the needle towards more affordable housing.

You might have missed it. Donald Trump did.

Instead of signing it and giving working families a leg up on billionaire-dollar corporations in the housing market, he just ignored it for 10 days, so it became law without his help.

The law limits the number of properties that gigantic, faceless real estate investment conglomerates can own, making the housing market more competitive for individual buyers. In other words, people now have a fair shot at buying homes for their families without being outbid by investors making all-cash offers on properties to drive up the price.

It's proof of concept that when Congressional Republicans think – even for a few minutes – about serving their communities instead of Donald Trump, Congress can improve the lives of American families on the edge of ruin.

The 21st Century Road to Housing Act might be the only thing in Washington, DC, that Trump hasn't tried to scrawl his name on. That's because unless someone's telling him about a scam to help his billionaire and corporate bootlickers, or personally make him money in office, Trump couldn't care less.

In fact, when someone finally filled him in on the Road to Housing Act, he called it "a yawn" – which, I suppose, explains why he slept on it.

Here's the good news: change doesn't have to move along at a snail's pace. All we need is to elect representatives with the guts to serve.
