In the shadow of America 250
This month, I've been at home in Massachusetts, the home of America, where the idea of our great nation emerged. This month, we celebrated America's 250th birthday. And this month, we've had to deal with the fallout of a president who acts more like the king we fought off 250 years ago than the democratically elected leader of a free people.
Because of this clown, our freedoms are more threatened today than they have ever been at any point in our nation's history. We are at an inflection point where we decide if power continues to be consolidated in the hands of a few wealthy elites – or we work to ensure every vote counts, is counted fairly, and our leaders are responsible to us for their actions.
If we leave it up to Donald Trump, the elites will continue to consolidate power, push people to the side, and lie to our faces that this is the best America has ever been. That's what a wannabe king does with power. Don't believe me? Well, let me share one stat with you: Half of all Americans are struggling right now with buying groceries and gas. HALF.
Donald Trump is the president of the most powerful nation in the world. If he wanted to make sure you could easily afford groceries, gas, and basic essentials, he could make it happen. But he hasn't. He's made it clear that he only cares about the people who shamelessly, sycophantically follow him.
Just look at the July 4 celebrations that happened in Washington, D.C. The same white supremacist mob that refused to wear masks to protect their neighbors during the pandemic showed up in masks to keep us from identifying them as the cowards they are. Trump had no problem with them because they worship his cruelty.
In just a few months, we have an opportunity to hold Donald Trump, his enablers, and his sycophants accountable. Our country was founded on the idea of checks and balances, and in November, the American people have the chance to be that first check. We have to defeat Republicans so Congress can be a check and balance on the other side of the Trump Administration.
Americans deserve a government that supports them – and makes groceries, gas, and housing affordable and accessible. Right now, they have an administration that indulges petty grievances, enriches the Trump family, fuels inflation, and belittles the idea of affordability for Americans.
I'll never forget or forgive Trump for saying, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. Not even a little bit."
I do. And it's why I'm in this fight. Thank you for being in it as well.
For democracy,
Jim
