Really? Reparations for MAGA loyalists and insurrections?
When small men who conflate self-dealing and vengeance for effective policy are in power, loyalty matters more than law and order.
Earlier this month, Trump had the audacity to claim that his MAGA loyalists have suffered incredible harm at the hands of American institutions during the Biden presidency. To make them feel better, what does Trump do? Tell them to get over it and ditch the poisons that are white supremacy and fascism? — I wish.
Americans nationwide are grappling with the devastating impacts of Trump's illegal war and struggling to make ends meet as they navigate Trump's affordability crisis.
As a result of dropping his $10 billion settlement with the IRS, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced plans to create a $1.8 billion fund to compensate "victims" who claim they were targeted by the Biden-era Justice Department. This is a 2 billion-dollar fund for Trump's most violent supporters — yes, the same supporters who stormed the Capitol and violently assaulted Capitol Police officers during the Jan 6th insurrection in 2021. While this ridiculous plan for MAGA reparations has temporarily been blocked, they'll do anything to get it rolling again.
Like I've said before, this is what happens when Republicans have unchecked power.
I can think of about a million better things to do with that money than give it to violent insurrectionists who would rather see us plunged back into the Jim Crow era than invest in education and ensure that our most vulnerable have access to food, health care, and housing.
Ignoring the will of the people to scratch the back of MAGA loyalty is a political choice that doesn't serve the vast majority of Americans. This is yet another reminder of why taking back control of Congress is priority #1.
We can't do this without you. As the month draws to a close, help us take the fight for our democracy beyond the walls of Congress to every possible arena we can.
In solidarity,
Jim
