The most American thing we can do:
Today in 1770, British troops fired on American colonists expressing their displeasure with the King's rule. They killed 5 American colonists in an event which would come to be known as the Boston Massacre.
The Boston Massacre is crucial to the foundation of our country and is at the core of what it means to be an American. We stand up for ourselves, and for each other, in the face of tyranny and repression.
The spirit of those Americans who banded together to fight for liberty and justice lives on today.
The President has sent an untrained, unaccountable army of Immigration Enforcement officers to terrorize Americans across the country.
They've gone to schools, homes, houses of worship, and workplaces to abduct our friends and neighbors.
They've threatened and harassed communities who have shown up to document ICE's abuses and protect their neighbors.
At the time of writing this, 27 people have been killed by immigration officers on our streets under the Trump administration. A further 46 people have died in ICE/CBP custody.
We can not, must not, and will not accept the abuses of power and violence being perpetrated against our friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens by this administration. In the last few months, it's been heartening to see communities respond with resilience and care to situations they should have never been put in.
But it's also a stark reminder of our reality.
These killings are a deliberate choice, made by an administration that displays nothing but contempt for its people, and enabled by a majority in Congress all too happy to let them do as they see fit. It doesn't have to be this way. This November, we have a chance to take back the House and hold this administration accountable for its actions. Take a step towards justice by making a donation to my campaign today.
Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Keith Porter, and all the other Americans we've lost should be alive today. I'll continue to fight for our rights, liberties, and freedoms in Congress and here in Massachusetts. It's the most American thing we can do.
In solidarity,
Jim
