"We shouldn't even have an election."
We all saw this one coming.
For years, Donald Trump has styled himself as a dictator. He's gone the whole nine yards: organizing military parades for his birthday, naming buildings after himself, claiming executive authority to do whatever pleases his ego, and generally holding disdain for the American public he's supposed to serve.
But if anyone pointed out what he was doing, his supporters and allies in Congress would retreat to a familiar refrain: "He's just joking," or "You're being hysterical."
We're seeing the same cycle play out now with his latest comments, floating the idea of canceling the midterm elections. Chip in $10 to our campaign if you know he's not joking.

Mere minutes after he said this, White House aides scrambled to reporters to deploy that refrain: "He was just kidding!"
Republicans can shout that to anyone who will listen until they're blue in the face, but we all know the truth by now. Nothing in this administration's track record — from deploying the national guard to occupy Democratic cities to using the FCC to silence his critics — tells us that he was joking.
But belief is one thing, and reality is another.
This President may believe himself to be above the law, the courts, and the people, but that doesn't make it true. We have the perfect opportunity to hold him accountable in this year's midterm elections (you know, the ones he wants to cancel) by taking back the House from the Yes Men in the Republican party. But we're going to need all the help we can get. Will you make a donation to our campaign ahead of our first end-of-month fundraising deadline of the year?
Onward,
Team McGovern
