Trump won’t, so let’s help feed Massachusetts families
I need your help making sure nobody in our community goes hungry because of Donald Trump and the Republican Shutdown. Will you make an urgent donation to the United Response Fund today?
Let me explain how we got to this point.
This summer, Republicans passed the largest cut to food assistance and health care in American history to fund tax breaks for billionaires. Their Big Ugly Bill cuts food assistance benefit levels and institutes pointless new red tape that will cause millions of seniors, kids, workers, and Americans with disabilities to lose reliable access to their food.
At the same time, their Big Ugly Bill dumps millions of people off their health care. They have shut the government down and refuse to come to the table to prevent massive increases in health care premiums for 22 million Americans – including hundreds of thousands of people here in Massachusetts.
Now, Republicans are doubling down. Trump's Administration said they won't use the emergency funds already in existence during November to fund food assistance programs.
Make no mistake: If Trump decides to cancel these food benefits, even though he does not need to, it will lead to an immediate and catastrophic increase in hunger across the country as 40+ million Americans face the terrifying reality that they do not have enough food to make it through Thanksgiving.
This is where you come in. Here in Central Massachusetts, a group of nonprofit leaders have come together to offer real, urgent help to our friends and neighbors impacted by the Republicans' decision to rip food off their table.
More soon,
Jim McGovern
