The fish rots from the head

For all their bluster about law and order, this administration doesn’t seem to have any problem turning a blind eye to criminal activity within their own ranks.

On Friday, new reporting revealed that top immigration official Tom Homan was under FBI investigation for soliciting bribes as payment for steering federal contracts towards those who paid him. The investigation culminated in an undercover operation, during which Homan was caught on video accepting a literal bag of cash ($50,000 worth).

How, you ask, did the supposed lovers of law and order react to this evidence? They ended the investigation, called it “blatantly political”, and claimed that there was no evidence of wrongdoing.

I don’t know what else you call that scene straight out of a political thriller, but it seems to me that from the crime itself to the administration’s cover-up, there‘s plenty of wrong to go around here.

There’s an old saying I think applies here: “The fish rots from the head”.

Donald Trump is the most corrupt, self-interested person to hold the office of President. So, it makes sense that he would staff his administration with people who share the same interests, and handpick Congressional leaders who will sit idly by while he makes a mockery of the rule of law.

As usual, MAGA footsoldiers in Congress, like Speaker Johnson, have been completely silent on the Trump administration’s corruption and blatant – on-camera – abuse of power. >Leadership requires action, and the GOP simply doesn’t seem up to that task.

More soon,
