Why even bother with the truth?
The Trump economy isn't working for anyone but the people at the top.
You know it, I know it, even Trump himself knows it.
We all know how bad the economy is because of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a nonpartisan government office whose only purpose is to observe and report on our country's economic conditions.
It's clear to me that the Trump administration fired the BLS commissioner, after a particularly bad jobs report, for no other reason than she made them look bad by doing her job.
Of course, it wasn't Commissioner McEntarfer's fault that Trump's policies have resulted in slowed job growth, increased unemployment levels, and sky-high prices for groceries. But that doesn't matter to Trump, who's always looking for new people, places, and things to use as excuses for his own catastrophic failures.
This is exactly the kind of brazen disregard for facts that we've come to expect from the President. After all, why even bother with the truth when your own version of reality is far more convenient?
Now, Trump's lackeys in Congress are preparing to confirm his hand-picked replacement for the job; a man who has already floated the idea of axing jobs reports altogether.
I've said time and again that Republicans simply aren't up to the task of governing. If their idea of advise and consent is to simply allow the President to tank the economy and then replace anyone who talks about it, then they have fully lost the plot. We've got to get back to basics. Will you make a donation to my campaign to help Democrats retake the House and restore common sense to Congress? Yours in the fight,
Jim McGovern
