What are they so afraid of?

It's time to talk about the elephant in the room.

No, not that elephant. The other one.

I'm talking about Donald Trump's strange and sudden change of tune with the Jeffrey Epstein files.

For years, Trump has embraced and amplified increasingly deranged conspiracy theories about a secret cabal of elites who are running around committing various crimes and are involved in shady dealings. Rather conveniently for him, all of the people he claims are involved in this massive conspiracy just so happen to be Democrats.

When he took office in January, he and his supporters gleefully proclaimed that they would bring this matter to light and expose the truth once and for all. Then? Silence. Trump went completely quiet on the subject, until he was forced to talk about it when Elon Musk, of all people, accused him of being mentioned in files related to the DOJ's investigation of Epstein's death.

He denied being in the files, and then even denied that the files existed at all! Even the MAGA faithful weren't convinced by a lie of that scale. After all, if he's not in it, why won't he simply release the files for the public to see? If they're not real, why did he claim that the files existed when on the campaign trail?

This all came to a head this week, when vote after vote to make these files public failed in the House, prompting Democrats and some Republicans alike to ask the same question: What are they so afraid of?

Headline: House GOP blocks second Dem attempt to release Epstein files

Yikes! I'll tell you what they're afraid of: Donald Trump.

The stranglehold that he has on the party is so strong that there is no breathing room for dissent. They all know that with a single tweet, he can end their careers in Congress, so they play along.

When he says jump, their only question is "How high?" So if he wants those files hidden, they'll stay hidden, despite the outrage from both sides of the aisle.

The Republican Party doesn't believe that anyone, not even their supporters, are entitled to the respect that comes with simply telling the truth. I wouldn't be friends with someone who believed that, let alone send them to Congress. Chip in $9 to our campaign to help us take back the House and restore truth to the halls of Congress.

More soon,

Jim McGovern
