6 months in and we’ve seen enough. Now we organize.

So much has happened in the last few weeks. I want to give you some quick updates as June draws to a close.

First, let's talk about the rising tensions in the Middle East. I urged President Trump to pursue off-ramps and negotiations to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, and not let Netanyahu drag Americans into conflict. I continue to urge de-escalation away from a bloody and expensive conflict. As you know, things have gotten complicated and frankly, dangerous.

I'm tired of watching politicians coming up with new ways to send our young people to die just to boost their political fortunes — it's absolutely sickening. Further, it's unconstitutional for any president to go to war without a vote in Congress. Period, end of story. That's why I am joining Rep. Thomas Massie and others to introduce a War Powers Resolution that would force President Trump to pull U.S. forces out of unauthorized hostilities with Iran — unless Congress explicitly approves it.

In 2026, we need to elect more leaders who will hold Trump and his cronies accountable.

Second: the ICE standoff in Los Angeles was no accident — it was classic Trump-manufactured chaos. Trump is stoking fear and division for political gain. I will continue to call it what it is and fight back.

Then, on June 14, while Trump celebrated his 79th birthday by throwing himself a self-indulgent, $45 million military parade (with devastatingly low attendance) — people marched in nationwide No Kings rallies. From the roar of thousands in our biggest cities to the quiet courage of a single voice sparking a movement in a small town — Americans showed up, loud and unafraid, to say hell no to authoritarianism. I attended two rallies in Northampton and Worcester — where thousands of us stood shoulder to shoulder to send a message.

Next: affordability and hunger. At a time when the GOP is working to cut critical programs like SNAP, food banks are working overtime to brace for the need in our communities. I recently visited the Revere Food Pantry and saw how access to fresh food and nutrition education is changing lives. These programs work — and I'm fighting tooth and nail to protect them.

Finally, Pride is resistance. In the face of anti-trans rulings and relentless GOP attacks on this community, we must show up, speak out, and stand strong. It was a privilege to show up for the Massachusetts LGBTQIA+ community this month in the Greenfield Pride Parade. Thank you to everyone who joined us, especially when it literally rained on our parade.

We need leaders in 2026 who will hold Trump accountable.

In solidarity,

Jim McGovern
