No debate. No authorization. No accountability. Just bombs.
The Constitution is clear: Only Congress has the power to declare war. But time and again, presidents from both parties have sidestepped that authority — launching military strikes, deploying troops, and risking lives without the debate, accountability, or authorization our democracy demands. Once again, a president is dragging the United States into war without a single vote in Congress.
No debate. No authorization. No accountability. Just bombs dropping and lives at risk.
That is not how this democracy is supposed to work. Congress holds the power to declare war. That's what the Constitution says. Not the White House. Not the Pentagon. Not one man behind a desk in the West Wing.
I've joined others in Congress to introduce a War Powers Resolution that would force President Trump to pull U.S. forces out of unauthorized hostilities with Iran — unless Congress explicitly approves it. But this resolution won't pass unless every single member of Congress feels the heat from people like you.
This is our chance to draw a line in the sand and say: No more blank checks for war.
But we need a wave of public outrage — and fast. Will you add your name to the petition and help us send a clear message to the Trump administration that only Congress has the power to declare war?
I'm sick and tired of watching our government sacrifice lives without cause — and without consent.
In solidarity,
Jim McGovern
