The GOP's War on Reading
Happy Banned Books Week!
For more than four decades, this week has served as both a celebration of our right to read and a renewal of our efforts in the fight against censorship.
Far-right extremists are on a mission to ban as many books from our schools and libraries as possible. And it's working.

The American Library Association is keeping score: 2022 broke a 21-year record in number of book ban requests, and 2023 is just itching to follow suit.
From school boards to Congress, it's like a game of "Whack-a-Book" for far-right Republicans. Anything that doesn't fit into their tiny, antiquated worldview gets the boot. It's like they're allergic to progress.
Here's the truth: the majority of Americans, regardless of political party, do not support book bans! Even 52 percent of Republicans don't buy into this nonsense.
This is not democracy.
But that's just par for the course for the GOP.
Know this: I won't stop fighting for First Amendment rights in Congress.
Together, I know we can create an America where everyone has the freedom to read what they choose.
Yours in the fight,
Jim
