[Petition] Stop DeJoy’s 10-year plan to privatize the USPS
Post offices across the country are struggling. Here's the worst part: it's on purpose.
You may remember that just months after the Trump Administration recommended privatizing the U.S. Postal Service, Trump appointed Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General – someone with no experience in the postal service. Three years later, DeJoy's USPS is a mess – of his own making.
Here's the problem: USPS isn't a business, and we shouldn't run it like one. It's a service.
Privatizing the postal service hurts vulnerable populations the most.
Rural and indigenous communities rely on USPS for their mail because, unlike private carriers, the postal service must deliver to every address. Private carriers won't open offices in remote areas or even send trucks out there because it's not profitable. These private companies already rely on USPS to deliver to hard-to-reach areas!
Under DeJoy's 10-year plan, delivery times would dramatically increase, meaning that people may not receive medication, bills, or even ballots on time. Hell no.
It's wrong and we must speak out.
Together, we can protect our postal service for generations to come!
