The former president is not just a loser. He is a threat.
Last month, Donald Trump made a rambly, low energy announcement that he would attempt a third presidential run. Then he teased another "big announcement," which turned out to be nothing more than another egocentric scam – a bunch of terribly photoshopped "digital trading cards" at an outrageous price.
It looks desperate and pathetic because it is. Trump's terrified of being held accountable for his crimes and looking for any way to escape responsibility for hoodwinking America to enrich himself (while continuing to grift anything he can from the American people!)
Let's review the former president's record: on his watch, Republicans lost the House, the Senate, and the popular vote twice. He led a violent attempt to overthrow the government and was impeached twice. Did I mention he's under criminal investigation? The January 6 Committee recently referred him to the Department of Justice.
Let's be clear: the former president is not just a loser. He is a threat. He's created a dangerous cult of supporters willing to do anything for him.
If Trump's new campaign is anything like his first two, it will be filled with hate, lies, and division. Even if he doesn't end up the nominee, his ignorance, cruelty, and pettiness will set the tone for the Republican campaign. He's starting his campaign with a massive war chest of resources, so there's a role for all of us in dealing with Trump and his MAGA cronies, another resounding loss. That's why I'm asking for your help.
We need leaders focused on what's important to working families, like lowering costs, creating safer communities, and investing in infrastructure, not lying about the 2020 election or amplifying the latest violent conspiracy theory.
From Massachusetts to the halls of Congress, I'll lead the fight to keep our democracy strong and stand up to those who attack our values.
We already beat him once. We'll do it again.
My message to the former president: bring it on.
