As a country, we have to do better than this.
As I am sure you heard, right-wing Governor Ron DeSantis sent 50 migrants, including children, to Martha's Vineyard last week. These migrants were told a host of lies about where they were going and what to expect when they arrived.
No one was there to meet them because no one knew they were coming. They were forced to walk to the community center.
Thankfully and unsurprisingly, Bay Staters stepped up with donations and volunteers to help the folks DeSantis rejected. I've never been more proud to be from Massachusetts.
This whole episode is nothing more than a cruel and costly stunt to "own the libs."
And there's the top-level problem with today's GOP "leaders": they see people as political pawns, not human beings. They see others' pain as a chance to rile up their political base, not a chance to step up and help.
That's grotesque. It's inhuman. As a country, we have to do better than this. And as a progressive movement, we have to lead the way.
