I’ve avoided saying this until now:
I'm tired of talking about the Republican election lies in terms like "undermining our democracy" and "spreading misinformation."
Those are powerful words, but frankly, they're too civilized to capture what Republicans and right-wing media are up to these days.
They are lying, cheating, and stirring up violence in order to stay in control.
I've avoided this kind of harsh language in the past because it sounds overdramatic, and honestly, sounds a lot like the with-us-or-against-us ranting of past Republican administrations.
But consider:
- Rather than admitting that more people voted for Joe Biden, Republicans are spinning up absolutely moronic conspiracy theories about Venezuela and bamboo shoots and evil supercomputers;
- Rather than trying to win more votes, Republicans are pushing hundreds of laws to simply keep people from voting for Democrats;
- Rather than standing for law and order, Congressional Republicans are voting against learning about the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6.
We can still stop them; they haven't yet stripped all the power away from our elections.
And if we want to preserve our democracy, we've got to make the next election the most stunning exercise of people-powered activism in our nation's history. Please, chip in $8 before our midnight deadline to fuel the fight and end the lies.
This is in reach. Let's get it done.
