Take action against Trump's ESA changes
We're ready to take action to protect the Endangered Species Act. Are you? The Trump administration recently announced changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that would:
- Weaken protections for species designated as “threatened”;
- Allow regulators to assess the economic impact of classifying a species as endangered;
- Prohibit consideration of the effects of climate change on endangered species;
- Make it easier to remove species from the endangered list.
The American bald eagle is a symbol of the American spirit – and it is among the countless species have been restored from the brink of extinction because of the Endangered Species Act. Allowing this creature to go extinct in favor of special interests and pro-pollution lobbyists may be the perfect allegory of Trump's America – but it's not ours.
The administration claims the updates are “improvements,” but these changes are feathering the nest for corporations and pro-pollution lobbyists at the expense of the animals most at risk. With the impacts of climate change threatening ecosystems worldwide, it's critical that the ESA remain intact.
