This is no longer about politics

No hoax. No conspiracy. No exoneration.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller spoke perhaps the most important words of his investigation this last week:

"If we had had confidence that he clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so."

The president's campaign welcomed, accepted, and embraced help from the Russian Government in rigging – and winning – the 2016 presidential election. Then they engaged in extensive, unpatriotic, and potentially criminal patterns of obstruction to cover their tracks.

This is not about politics or taking sides. It never has been. This is about defending our constitution, fighting for our democratic values, and upholding the law.

As Robert Mueller said, the power now rests with Congress. We've been elected to serve the people and the people alone, to legislate responsibly, to safeguard the public trust, and to act as a check on executive overreach.

I take those responsibilities seriously. That's why I'm making it clear that Congress must open an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump's obstruction of justice.

As a Congress, it's our obligation to protect the integrity of the administration of justice, and prohibit a president's corrupt use of authority. Robert Mueller has done his job. Now we must do ours.
