Dollars and Sense

Today is "Equal Pay Day," the date the average woman must work into the following year to earn what the average man earns in the previous year.

The average woman makes 80¢ to every man's dollar. Today, April 2, 2019 — the average working woman has finally earned what her male counterpart earned in 2018.

Breaking down the stats among women of color compared to white men is even more appalling:

  • Latinx women: November 20, 53¢
  • Native American women: September 23, 58¢
  • Black women: August 22, 61¢
  • White women: April 19, 77¢
  • Asian-American women: March 5, 85¢

This is absolutely unacceptable.

Equal pay for equal work was enshrined in law by President Kennedy in the 60s. Economic equality is long overdue. Join the conversation on Facebook.
