an opportunity to save lives

Last year, I talked about the opportunity a Democratic majority presents for commonsense gun reform.

Now we're taking our first steps in the House, starting with the sales of firearms. A bill has been introduced that would mandate universal background checks on nearly all gun sales.

This legislation will be lifesaving. Better still, it shouldn't be difficult to pass: 97% of Americans support background checks for all gun sales.

With 97% approval by our constituents, why would there be any hesitation? Because many of my colleagues cater to organizations like the National Rifle Association ahead of their communities.

Help our coalition emphasize the importance of this legislation by signing our petition to tell Congress: we need universal background checks now.
