this endorsement choked me up

I'm honored that my friend, Patrick Downes, took the time to record a video for me. Patrick interned in my office several years ago. He and his wife Jessica were severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Patrick and Jessica embody America's can-do spirit. They radiate optimism and empathy.

While recovering from their injuries at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, Patrick and Jess saw how vitally important service dogs are for veterans who have sustained disabling injuries.

They told me about their veteran friends with service dogs. They told me about Jess' service dog, Rescue, and how important he is to improving her quality of life. And they told me more veterans need well-trained service dogs.

I'm proud to have authored the Wounded Warrior Service Act to provide funding to train service dogs. With Patrick and Jess' help, we recently secured $10 million for this vital program.

Thank you, Patrick and Jessica, for all the incredible work you do for veterans and those living with disabilities. I'm proud to call you friends.
