Sign the petition: protect our family farms

There is no reason that one of the wealthiest countries in the world should have a single person struggling with hunger. And yet, millions of Americans are suffering from the reckless cuts the Trump administration has made to aid programs.

The Republican farm bill includes a 10-year plan that would further cut Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits by over $20 billion. These cuts would be accompanied by expanded work requirements, and stricter eligibility rules, leading to reduced enrollment and more hungry people.

In December, 41 million were enrolled in SNAP, the Congressional Budget office anticipates enrollment would fall to 32 million by 2027.

I've spent decades fighting for programs that help those in need. Our job in Congress is to pass lasting and impactful legislation to combat hunger and protect the environment. America's Farm Bill is a great example to do right by Americans.

This opportunity only comes every five years, when Congress must authorize a new Farm Bill. The Farm Bill sets the course for our nation's agriculture and food-health policy. The Farm Bill is one of the most important pieces of legislation up for consideration this year.

It's time for a Farm Bill that helps our farmers and supports our nutrition programs. It's time for a Farm Bill that works for the rest of us.
