Forward against backward.

This is a time of many anniversaries.

Of Donald Trump's inauguration.

Of the movement that started with the Women's March in 2017.

Of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Of Citizens United.

It's a lot to process, and it boils down to a simple theme: it's forward against backward. Hope against cynicism.

I believe in the power of the American people. I believe that our best days are ahead because we're a country of increasingly diverse backgrounds.

This is about working together and embracing what we can be in the future. Not shutting things down and petulantly taking to Twitter.

In the last year, we've seen an overwhelming backlash to Donald Trump's presidency. To Republican control in Congress. To the disastrous policies at the heart of their failed attempts at governance.

We've seen millions of people take to the streets to protest the attacks on our friends and neighbors, women, minorities, members of our LGBTQ community, students, and so many more.

People are demanding change. Standing up for a woman's right to make her own health care decisions. Protesting the corporate takeover of our democracy.

I'm right there with them. And I will be every step of the way. Because it couldn't be any clearer: the change America needs is coming.

In solidarity,

Jim
