Why petitions matter
Petitions are grassroots-driven, people-powered politics. They’re not about money or influence; they’re about people making their voices heard on the issues that matter to them. It may be easy to become cynical when confronted with the many challenges our country faces today, but when people join together to build a grassroots movement for change, real progress becomes possible.
Petitions also help me do my job as a Representative. They help me to understand what you’re concerned about and connect with you about how we can make progress on those issues. They’re also informative – if I see a strong response to one petition over another, that helps me to set my priorities in Congress.
In our democracy, people should hold sway over money. Petitions are a digital way of rallying in the streets, joining hands together, and standing up to powerful special interests.
I’m glad you’re standing with me—and together, we can stand up, speak out, and fight for our progressive values.
