Trump's speech, the American Dream, and our resistance
Donald Trump’s speech was really something.
He talked about unity, stuck to his script, and had some decent lines.
But here’s the thing: He’s still singing the same old tune.
Trump continued to obsessively scapegoat our nation’s immigrants, spreading the myth that they are dangerous criminals who cannot be trusted. Worse: he announced the creation of an office within Homeland Security to do just that – cherry-picking stories of the small minority of immigrants who commit violent crimes to inspire prejudice against all immigrants.
We must fight back against Trump’s attempt to paint millions in such broad strokes. Many immigrant families are just coming to our country for their shot at the American Dream – but because of where they were born, Trump’s policies and rhetoric puts them at risk of getting deported.
That’s why we’re building a movement to resist Trump’s extreme agenda. On Saturday, nearly a thousand supporters joined me at my Democratic Organizing Breakfast, where people from all across the district got together to organize our opposition. It’s with this grassroots energy that our movement will fight for our values – and win.
