Children at the border
Imagine uprooting your life and traveling thousands of miles for the opportunity to protect your family from unspeakable violence and poverty only to find out at the border that things just got a whole lot worse.
That's exactly what's happening at our southern border when U.S. agents rip children from their mother's arms. The images of families being torn apart at the hands of American officials makes me sick. And it contradicts everything our country stands for.
The White House imposed these heartless measures to feed the build-the-wall hysteria Trump has hyped since he was a candidate. Now, as president, he's got more than a megaphone. He's got power, authoritarian ambitions, and, in Jeff Sessions, an attorney general ready to do his bidding.
These heartless actions are imposed by way of policy not law. Trump and Sessions have the power to reverse their policy immediately.
We've reached a new low. And I won't stand for it. I am calling on Republicans in Congress to show some backbone and demand that Trump end the outrageous treatment of asylum seekers who want nothing more than a chance at a better life.
